Yips or ‘the yips’ is the apparent loss of certain fine motor skills, seemingly without explanation, in many different sports or activities where fine motor skills are used in front of a public audience. Golf, snooker, darts, cricket, musicians etc.etc.
Often the yips are said to be focal dystonia which is classified as a neurological condition that affects a muscle or group of muscles in a part of the body and causes an involuntary muscular contraction or twisting. Whilst this may be an explanation of the physical cause of the problem, the neurological side is to blame.
